Overview
The Vermont Department of Buildings and General Services (BGS) provides essential resources and services to our government partners, Vermonter’s, and Visitors. We are seeking an experienced executive to oversee day-to-day operations of our 360-person department. The Deputy Commissioner of BGS is expected to deliver guidance and effective leadership to ensure all the department’s objectives are met in an employee-oriented and high-performance culture. The Deputy is responsible for the ongoing operations of eight offices and divisions, focusing on and emphasizing the integration of the Department’s efforts. The ability to translate goals into action and implement plans with measurable outcomes is a must. The Deputy collaborates with other officials across all of state government, including executive branch agencies and departments, the judiciary and the legislature. Day-to-day activities include managing and streamlining daily operations, optimizing budgeting and financial operations, supporting human resource related activities, establishing departmental goals, executing special projects, and advising leadership. This position reports directly to the Commissioner of Buildings and General Services.

Compensation
Salary is commensurate with experience.

Minimum Requirements
The successful candidate will have 3-5 years of proven executive level experience, preferably in the field of operations management, facility management, or building construction. The ideal candidate must possess a strong drive, outstanding communication skills, proven leadership qualities, exemplary planning and organizational skills, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
