Downtown and Historic Preservation Conference

Date: 6/4/26 8:00 AM
Website: ptvermont.org/our-work/historic-preservation-downtown-conference/
Location: St. Albans

The Downtown and Historic Preservation Conference brings together a diverse group of stakeholders to network and learn about historic preservation, community planning and downtown revitalization. We are very pleased to announce that this year’s conference will be held in St. Albans on Thursday June 4th, 2026 followed by the Vermont Art Council’s Creative Sector Convening on Friday June 5th, 2026.

All of us involved in community and economic development in Vermont know that for our historic downtowns to be successful in the future they must be dynamic, creative, and welcoming. St Albans exemplifies that success, standing as a powerful example of what a community can achieve through vision, foresight, and collaboration. Balancing modern innovation with deep respect for its history and family-centered values, the city proves that local commitment can spark big change. This conference will explore how intentional, community-driven efforts lead to transformative results.

Participants will explore four interconnected focus areas that reflect the realities of Vermont downtowns and villages today:

Main Street, Strengthening the Heart of our Communities;
Resilience: Leading Through Change Without Burning Out;
Adaptive Use: Repurposing Historic Buildings;
Community Preservation: Holding Onto What Matters Most.
This conference invites participants to reconnect with purpose, share what’s working, and leave with ideas they can put into action—right where they live.
