At the Annual Meeting in December, AIAVT's President, Andres Gutierrez shared his exciting plans for an AIAVT trip to Colombia.
This immersive 10-day tour will explore the dynamic evolution of contemporary architecture in Bogotá and Medellín, Colombia’s two most vibrant cities for design innovation and urban renewal. Participants will examine parallels between Colombia and Vermont in the areas of public space, community design, and equitable development, fostering a global perspective on shared challenges and opportunities.
The proposed trip includes:
- Dates: April 16, 2027 – April 25, 2027 (10 days)
- Destinations: Bogotá and Medellín, Colombia.
- Travel: Flights depart from Montreal, Canada (guests will travel from Burlington to Montreal on a private coach).
- Accommodation: Nine nights in deluxe hotels.
Itinerary Highlights
- Bogotá: The trip includes visiting architectural sites by Daniel Bonilla, the Virgilio Barco Public Library, the Botanical Gardens, universities, the historic La Candelaria district, and the Monserrate Sanctuary.
- Medellín: Scheduled activities include tours of Comuna 13, a neighborhood famous for its remarkable transformation from one of the world's most dangerous neighborhoods into a vibrant hub of art, culture, and tourism, the University of Antioquia, and the Botanical Gardens. Additional optional tours explore Medellín's social urbanism, Metrocable system, and cultural history.
Inclusions and Pricing
- Included: Air travel and ground transportation, accomodations, nine breakfasts, one lunch, three dinners, private professional driver transfers, and architectural site visits.
