This year’s Guy Teschmacher Memorial Golf Tournament venue provided AIAVT with an exciting opportunity to test drive an idea that the golf committee had been throwing around for a few years now—adding a disc golf tournament to the day’s events. Since Sugarbush Resort has a disc golf course on site, we were able to expand the existing tournament to incorporate this new activity.

While AIAVT’s annual golf tournament is one of our most popular events, bringing out 60-80 attendees and raising funds for our scholarships each year, golf is not a sport that everyone plays and the associated costs can be a barrier to entry for some. Our golf committee was excited to make the tournament day more inclusive by adding disc golf as an option for players.

The day filled out nicely, with (ball) golfers arriving to register, pick up their goodie bags and boxed lunches, and tee off at noon. This gave our volunteers enough time to eat some lunch, and then head to the disc golf course, where we set up registration, set out the sponsor signage throughout the course, and prepared to welcome our 16 disc golf registrants, who competed in pairs in a shotgun style tournament.

Once the disc golfers finished playing, they headed to Hogan’s Pub at the Sugarbush Resort Golf Club, just a few miles up the road where they were able to enjoy a drink, help themselves to the dinner buffet, and watch the ball golfers finish up their games and join them for the dinner reception, awards announcements, and a few stories about Guy Teschmacher.

Overall, it was a fantastic day with winners taking home prizes ranging from greens fees at local golf courses to gift certificates to popular restaurants. With the addition of disc golf, this scholarship fundraising event was our most successful one yet, and raised a record amount for AIAVT’s Scholars Fund. AIAVT’s Golf committee is excited to keep this new tradition going, and hopes to see an increased turnout for disc golf next year.

Congratulations to our Winners!
