Vermont's building energy standards, also called "energy codes", are regularly updated to make sure we are on track to meet our "net zero energy ready construction by 2030" statewide goal. On July 1, 2024 the newest updates to Residential Building Energy Standards (RBES) and Commercial Building Energy Standards (CBES) became effective. Now, the State of Vermont is considering allowing builders the ability to choose between the 2020 RBES or the 2024 RBES.
