The 2023 version of the Vermont residential energy code will require efficient, balanced heat recovery ventilation in all new homes. This session will talk about how to design a whole-home balanced ventilation system, select and size an ERV or HRV, and verify the system is meeting requirements and occupants’ needs. We will explore tips for successful duct and register layout and effective ventilator controls to ensure optimal comfort and indoor air quality in homes.

Please join our Efficiency Vermont expert, Karen Bushey, for a virtual offering of this Better Building by Design (BBD) 2023 session.

Learning Objectives:
1. Define accurate whole-home ventilation requirements and room-by-room design targets for balanced heat recovery ventilation systems.
2. Describe an efficient duct layout and distribution system, including duct size and register selection.
3. Identify 5 priorities in balanced ventilation unit selection and location.
4. Understand why commissioning is important and how to verify air flow rates, direction, and energy use.
