The Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA)’s Manual D is the standard of the industry when it comes to HVAC design. However, most contractors do not use the manual, or they use it incorrectly. The reasons for this are many, including its complexity and the difficulty of making the guidelines work with retrofits and fuel conversions. This session will focus on avoiding HVAC-related problems: the airflow killers, the noisemakers, and the dumb ductwork fittings. The golden rule of duct design, “Right Angles Are Wrong,” will be explained.
