Call for Case Studies: building being converted to multi-family mixed use
Date: 9/1/26 10:00 AM
Location: Vermont
Are you working on a building that is being converted to multi-family use, including mixed use?
BSAVT is offering an in-depth look at the code issues facing conversion of big old houses, Main Street commercial blocks, office buildings, really any kind of existing structure into multi-family residential. We are looking for two case studies to spend 2-3 hours on (each) to go over everything related to a building permit.
DFS’s Landon Wheeler and Patrick Banks will lead PROFESSIONALS’ ROUNDTABLE: CONVERTING EXISTING BUILDINGS TO MULTI-FAMILY USE IN VERMONT FROM A CODE REVIEW PERSPECTIVE - Wednesday, October 14, 2026, 8:00 am - 3:30 pm – in Montpelier.
You and your team would present your case study with images, and Landon and Pat will cover how to fill out an application, how to apply the VT Fire & Building Safety Code, separation of uses, egress, life safety, elevators, sprinklering, accessibility, historic preservation, and Chapter 43. We hope to encourage broad discussion with your building team and the participants. We will minimize discussion of RBES/CBES due to time limitations.
If you have a potential case study, please let me know as soon as possible.
And please save the date! Registration will open in the next week.
Thanks,
Sandy Vitzthum for BSAVT
