Location: Burlington, VT

James Cutler, FAIA and founding member of Cutler Anderson Architects of Bainbridge Island, Washington, will be presenting the 20th annual Roland Batten Lecture titled, “The Circumstances of Design and Reality.”

Cutler’s passion for land conservation and his rigorous study of place through his work is a defining theme of the upcoming lecture. “Each project that we design is embedded in the circumstances of the place in which we erect the structure, the materials we use to create that structure, and the client’s visual and emotional goals,” says Cutler. “We believe in [studying, understanding, and then revealing the nature of these components], there is a wealth of opportunity to…amplify the understanding and emotional connection to the ‘whole’ of a project.”

The lecture will be held at Contois Auditorium at City Hall in Burlington, VT.
