Opportunity for a Designer/ Architect with Duncan Wisniewski

Internship Opportunity with Duncan Wisniewski

Duncan Wisniewski Architecture is a Burlington, Vermont architecture firm founded in 1985. Our motto is to make good places for good people through good architecture. We all share a commitment to designing spaces beneficial to our community, society, and environment. Pursuing these ideals, we have chosen to remain a relatively small firm, work locally, and devote our personal attention to clients and their projects. On any given project, big or small, we are intimately involved in programming through construction completion. We have a dynamic and talented staff of 9 who continually challenge design and modeling processes, integrate carbon modeling, utilize BIM models for 3D exploration and rendering, and produce tailored contract documents by pushing the capabilities of our software. Our work ranges from small renovations to large structures and even entire neighborhoods.

We specialize in affordable housing and work closely with repeat clients to further Vermont’s need for more housing. Additionally, we seek other mission-driven work: ranging from veterinary clinics to health care centers, early education centers to recreational pavilions, and more.

DWA is looking for an individual who shares our commitments:

— We seek to elevate our most vulnerable and marginalized communities through the design of safe and welcoming places to live, collaborate, and heal.

— We support climate action: to hold our clients to the highest environmental standards, to eliminate the use of fossil fuels, to harness and strategically utilize renewable energy, and to build with materials that sequester carbon and create healthy places.

— We support inclusivity and diversity. Our work serves many individuals who experience/d homelessness, addiction, discrimination, and mental health challenges.

In our open one-room studio we have a casual environment where we foster teamwork and collaboration. Just as important is our time outside of the studio where we volunteer in the community, engage with our neighbors, travel, and value time with our children, friends, and families. We each work to maintain a 40-hour work week with flexible office hours (opportunity for remote work with experience). We are an Apple-based firm and design primarily with Vectorworks, but we welcome all CAD experience.

The right person to join DWA enjoys working as a part of a team on a variety of project types and scales and through all phases of design. We value skill, communication, leadership, and a strong desire to further the firm’s mission. We welcome applicants at all levels of experience.

We look forward to talking with you about our open position and your interest.
